Description
INTERMEDIATE, STRING QUARTET
Glen Orchy is a beautiful valley north and a little west of Glasgow. Top the Candle is a slip jig, which is a jig in 9/8 that I found in “O’Niell’s 1001 Irish Dance Tunes.” It has a wonderful lilt, and to see people dance a slip jig, the music is on the slower side, but their feet move very fast! Sally Hunter of Thurston was written by Nathaniel Gow, (1763-1831) a Scottish fiddler, and son of fiddler Neil Gow.
Notes: double stops, pizz, smear, mordents
Key: E dorian/ D major
Level II-III
Thank you to the Alberta Foundation of the Arts for a grant which helped with the recording of this arrangement.
