ADVANCED, STRING ORCHESTRA, CONTEMPORARY
Commissioned by Blue Arch Strings, Aspen Turning was composed as an ode to fall. Staring straight up at a deep blue sky that is filled with brilliant yellow aspen leaves creates a sensation that leaves one a little breathless, dizzying, because the colors are so intense. In this piece, modal materials give a sense of earthiness, while the counterpoint sends the melodies spinning out like the mesmerizing canopy of leaves.
